From The New York Times: Mr. Trump’s performance on the national stage in recent weeks has put on display the traits that Democrats and some Republicans consider so jarring — the profound need for personal praise, the propensity to blame others, the lack of human empathy, the penchant for rewriting history, the disregard for expertise, the distortion of facts, the impatience with scrutiny or criticism. For years, skeptics expressed concern about how he would handle a genuine crisis threatening the nation, and now they know. (more…)

As you watch the video below (speakers on), notice that this is not a bad metaphor for the Trump presidency.  He’s here, and he’s made a considerable mess, but he hasn’t left yet.

It’s possible that his exit could be just as bad as his entrance.  (more…)

Let’s make a few assumptions:

• A few months from now, the pandemic is under control.

• In November, Trump is replaced by a garden-variety centrist neoliberal like Biden, whose administration restores America to the standard cruel capitalism and social injustice of the past, where no one really cares about human suffering, but at least we’re not going out of our way to generate it at lightening speed, and spouting out 12 – 13 bald-faces lies a day about the crimes against humanity we’re committing. The Internet is a terrific boon for people wishing to learn more about subjects they deem to be important, and thus it’s hard to imagine how many of us are Googling or YouTubing “viruses” these days.  (more…)

A reader sent me the photo here and asked me to do the basic physics (no calculus) associated with what will happen to the (idiot) kid at right.

The first thing to do is estimate the mass of the cylindrical bale, which, per this article, isn’t an exact science.  Let’s guess it’s 400 kg, and that it will be falling 2 meters.  Suppose the kid weighs 50 kg and the smaller bale weighs another 50 kg, for a total of 100 kg.  (more…)

Here’s an exchange between Trump and a reporter that illustrates what a terrible person–and even worse leader–our president is.

NBC News reporter Peter Alexander: “What do you say to millions of Americans who are scared?” (more…)

The meme here is a reminder that the bagpipe is one of the best tools for social distancing.

Kidding aside, as a result of its heavy commitment to renewable energy, wind in particular, Scotland is generating twice as much power as it’s consuming, transmitting massive amounts to England to the south. (more…)

Imagine a version of today’s United States in which every American understood what Teddy Roosevelt is commanding us to do in the meme here.  Think of how different a place this would be.

Fox News wouldn’t exist, but more importantly, Donald Trump would be just one more sleazy conman, hounded by the justice system, probably winding up in prison.

It’s hard to know what motivated the bicyclist here to don this fabulous costume.  Maybe he’s trying to convey an important message: transition away from beef.  Moving our diets down the food chain benefits our health, the planet, and the animal kingdom.
