Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) was one of the eight lawmakers, all Republicans, who voted against the coronavirus relief package on Wednesday.

Inhofe is probably best known for bringing a snowball onto the Senate floor, so as to make the point that the existence of snow is proof that climate change is a hoax.

Still doing his thing, ruining people’s lives.

The meme here raises a very good question: how does this boob have any credibility with anyone?  How in blazes does he pull this off, when no one else on Earth, now or in the past, has spouted raw gibberish on a daily basis and been regarded as anything else than a fool? (more…)

Europe’s “Green Deal” is much like the American concept of the “Green New Deal,” with the exception of the fact that it might actually happen.  Having said that, it is facing opposition, and from a predictable source.
The Green Deal is a proposal from the European Union’s brand new European Commission.  The proposal lacks full detail at this point, but, if fleshed out and implemented, it would make the EU net-zero carbon by 2050. Yet certain European countries have deeply entrenched interests in coal, and this, as one might expect, means pushing back against clean energy.  From GreenTech Media:

Sorry, but Trump won’t resign.  Nobody knows what he’ll do, but facing the truth and acting like a rational human being simply won’t happen.

Look at the behavior we’ve seen, perfectly consistent from the day he took office.  If something good happens anywhere on the globe, he takes full and immediate credit for it.  He takes bad news, regardless of how directly it implicates him in some form of ineptitude or wrongdoing, and flips it on its head.  Sometimes this “flipping” invokes accusing the media and/or the Democrats of inventing fake news designed to damage him; sometimes it’s the “deep state,” working mischievously behind the scenes to have him removed.  Sometimes it’s something else.  He does whatever it takes, regardless of how patently absurd.  (more…)

“It’s not a concern,” Reverend Tony Spell said of the pandemic, following his service to a packed house of 1,700. “The virus, we believe, is politically motivated. We hold our religious rights dear and we are going to assemble no matter what someone says.” (more…)

It seems that our civilization’s response to the coronavirus is pulling us together. With each passing day, we see new examples of generosity between groups of people who previously had shared very little kinship.

Perhaps we’ll look back on this as a blessing in disguise, one that prepared us to deal with our profound environmental challenges that also require international cooperation.  (more…)

Check out this quick but deeply moving story about Margaret Mead whose message is To be civilized is to help other people.

People a couple of generations ago would have shrugged this off.  “Obviously,” they would have said.

Now, the concept of helping others in need is a matter of heated debate in American society.  Do we need to be kind to people desperately fleeing danger?  Should we feed hungry children? Isn’t it unacceptable that we have American veterans (or anyone) dying of treatable diseases? Don’t we have some sort of moral imperative not to destroy the environment in which future generations will live?

You may join me in answering these four questions in the affirmative, but keep in mind that you’re living in a society where about 40% disagree.

Let’s try to get back to a point where no one needed to tell us what it means to be civil.

I strenuously object to rap “music,” with its all-to-common promotion of violence, hatred, and misogyny.  That’s why I was so pleasantly surprised when I came across this, extolling the virtues of …. wait for it ….  the cucumber.  So clever, so well done.
