The Trump administration is attempting to reverse Obama-era rules that fight racial discrimination in housing, and it’s also targeting a federal law that’s underpinned the desegregation of American neighborhoods for a half-century known as the Fair Housing Act, which is Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, outlawing refusal to sell or rent a dwelling to any person because of race, color, disability, religion, sex, familial status, or national origin. Claims to seat two.  I was going to inquire about the indoor version, but then realized that this would be a waste of time, since I prefer outdoor cars to their indoor counterparts anyway.

I’m with the author of the meme here 100%. As I’ve mentioned, I would happily vote for my gardener Juan over Trump.

He’s honest, hard-working, and he listens to reasonable suggestions that are focused on improving what he’s accomplishing for me. In other words, he understands what it means to serve, i.e., to perform work aimed at bettering the lives of those around him.

He expects to be compensated for the value he adds, but would not accept a dime more.  Under no circumstances would he attempt to enrich himself by behaving dishonorably, much less breaking the law.

He’s the exact opposite of Trump in every meaningful way.

I don’t know his last name, so I’ll just say, “Juan in 2020.”

In response to the meme here, reader Alex notes: We weren’t here 3 million years ago! How do you measure that?

I can see that you’re being snide, suggesting that scientists are simply inventing data to prove whatever they want. (more…)

This translates (literally) as “As the first country in the world: Luxembourg makes bus and train free.”

If you’re serious about reducing VMT (vehicle miles traveled), this is certainly one weapon in your arsenal.  I’m sure it makes people reconsider car ownership itself.

We come across lots of different concepts that invoke renewable energy to charge off-grid devices–most of which are solar, though one sees an occasional use of micro-wind or even micro-hydro.

Normally, ads depict an affluent white hiker sporting $400 worth of clothes from LL Bean, standing next to his super-model girlfriend, outside a tent which could serve as a venue for a dinner party for 12.  That’s why the guy pictured here made me smile.

Anti-government, Trump-supporting Hillsdale College is ostensibly conducting a one-question survey of Facebook: What are your biggest concerns about socialism taking root in America?  (I use the word “ostensibly” because real surveys from academically honest institutions don’t use loaded questions that contain enormous–and in this case erroneous–assumptions.) From GreenTech Media:

After raising nearly $60 million in a recent 50-day crowdfunding campaign, Munich-based Sono Motors expects its €25,500 ($27,600) electric car, the Sion, to benefit from a range extension from about 2 miles per day to as much as 20 miles per day in Germany, depending on the season and weather, thanks to a solar charging system integrated into the body of the car. Promote of concept shown here: Productivity just got greener! Made from eco-friendly materials and powered by the Sun, our solar workstations help create a new place to connect.

File this one under the category: “renewable energy concept that is theoretically possible but asinine nonetheless.”

Imagine that you’re on some sort of campus, maybe a university, maybe a large corporation, and you’re desperate to sit outside and do your work or play online, but your device is totally discharged. (more…)

We have a reader in Adana, Turkey who loves to submit renewable energy concepts, but I’m beginning to think he’s pulling my leg, as each one is so obviously defective.

Here’s a prize-winner. He calls this “the future of street lamps,” apparently in the belief that a cylindrical array of solar PV is a good idea.  Does he not understand that the core of solar is the incidence of lots of photons from the sun?  Dude, at any given time, they’re coming in one and only one direction.

Worse yet, there are four fixed quadrants of solar cells, one of which will receive no direct sunlight. That’s the north-facing quadrant in northern hemisphere installations and the south-facing quadrant in southern hemisphere installations.  That’s like putting solar panels in your basement.
