Shell Oil Says Adios to the American Legislative Exchange Council
Three pieces of good news:
• Shell Oil is distancing itself from the conservative front group American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) whose purpose, among other horrors, is to spread disinformation on climate change. A Shell spokesperson said, “ALEC’s stance on climate change is clearly inconsistent with our own.”
• Earlier this week, the EPA finalized its Clean Power Plan.
• You, Mr. or Ms. Reader, are part of the reason #1 and #2 happened, and you should take credit for it. You care about the quality of our planet, and you endeavor to save it. You live in a world where the actions of its people still matter, and that’s probably the best news of all.
On 1 and 2, about time. ALEC is waging a rear-guard action against the arc of history. But don’t waste time celebrating the battle won. Environmental concerns are global, and the war is far from won. Indeed, it is not clear the tide environmental damage has even slowed much.
It’s wise to celebrate victories, however large or small, while also endeavoring to stay abreast of the continuing areas of need.
We shouldn’t let any victory blind us to the remaining concerns, but even the smallest climb upward is better than a complete downward plummet.
To ignore progress is to encourage hopelessness.
Yes definitely Good News = The Rearguard action ALEC and the like are waging can be over come and their Illusions and Castles will Tumble down all around them
