Climate Change: Strong Forces Pulling in Both Directions

Macro-Trends in Energy and the Environment

2GreenEnergy supporter Gary Tulie writes: Here is an article on the effects of climate change at various levels of temperature rise. It makes disturbing reading. Some of the research indicates that positive feedback will kick in above 2 centigrade of temperature rise meaning that temperature may continue to rise – eventually by 5 or 6 centigrade before a new equilibrium can be achieved, and that level of temperature rise is not a pretty sight.

Thanks. Yes, this is disturbing, but you must be somewhat heartened to note the amazing groundswell of support for renewables, efficiency, and conservation. Even here in the US, the people are starting to come around on this very quickly, resulting in some cause for real celebration, or at least optimism, as I noted here.

Again we have Shell Oil in the news in a positive light—apparently taking the challenges of climate change seriously. It’s actions like these on the part of big corporations that hold the potential to make huge and rapid transformations in the way humankind goes about its business of satisfying its needs while preserving the environment and its ability to support life.

I got some old “Shell cells” from an ebay seller a few years ago. They are only good for small hobby projects but helped me to learn a little about ohms law and solar and batteries.
Hopefully, they’ll invest billions into the mass manufacture of renewables or their batteries.
