Global Attack on Climate Change a Real Possibility

Global Attack on Climate Change a Real PossibilityTo the surprise and delight of many, the U.S. and China have formally joined the Paris Agreement on climate change mitigation.  This is fairly astonishing, given the cool reception with which the U.S. Congress received the idea of signing up for a campaign to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions when the delegation to Paris came back home last December.

Per Obama:  We have a saying in America – that you need to put your money where your mouth is. And when it comes to combating climate change, that’s what we’re doing, both the United States and China. We’re leading by example. As the world’s two largest economies and two largest emitters, our entrance into this agreement continues the momentum of Paris and should give the rest of the world confidence – whether developed or developing countries – that a low-carbon future is where the world is heading.

If executive director of Sierra Club Michael Brune approves, it really must be good.  And “Mikey likes it,” (a line from a famous U.S. television ad for breakfast cereal 50 years ago).   In a statement, Brune said their commitments “set a global precedent that has catapulted the world to the cusp of formally implementing the Paris Agreement and will have major positive implications for generations to come.”

See summary below; definitely cause for celebration.

Absolutely this is “good news” but what each country is preparing to actually do is yet to be seen. So guarded optimism rather than pop the cork on the bottle.

    @Craig and Breath

These are simply “media blips” to the real play unfolding, and their inherent obsolescence as “key-points” will be quickly exposed and overwhelmed when the real work starts.

That work is in the hands of corporate “world” and collectively they definitely will not be underpinning or guiding their forward momentum by a political white paper.

This is a technological world we now must forge, and those who are in control of that, know that.

Like I have always promoted Craig, there are enormous commercial possibilities for corporate USA to take control of the emerging (and inevitable) global new energy technologies era, by way of a “nation building” project involving industry, science and academia underpinned by “hard hitting creative policy” from the top.

If the USA doesn’t take up the challenge and respond wholeheartedly to the amazing commercial and social opportunities presented, there are others capable who are already in the congo line enthusiastically prepared to do so such as:

    A. China
    B. European consortium:

Hate to be a Downer and Rain on the Parade – as I too like the Paris proclamation agreement – a good start

But as Lawrence says the Corporate World has the Juice to either make this happen or to Subvert it. We shall see.

And we have a shyster of a businessman running for president with hordes of simpletons exhorting him to new lows of delusion and denial – This Trojan Horse and his minion followers don’t believe in the realities of Global climate Change – they dismiss it as the Scam of the current President and they are going to be Fuels people and get all the coal out of the ground as fast as they can by Burning it. They are also these so called energy voters too who are clueless about these technically complex relationships. They just want a cheap power bill as long as the Really higher costs are hidden or shifted to the commons.

They too are confused or bought off, preoccupied with materialism maybe all three!

So not only do we need to deploy good new technologies as fast as we can , minimize stranded assets to minimize sunk investments ( that is a tug of war) we have to over come the political and social ignorance and its barriers.

Hopefully, the Corporate folks realize they can make good money going forward and they see the end of the trail in the carbon revenue streams and so they divest their existing plans and Adapt to the New Technologies at Triple Time so we can work harder towards the Paris agreements goals and Timelines and Blow the Shell LENS timeline away.

More Aspirations but we have a shot.

Silent Running you have come a long way since the beginning of this year in how you are focusing more on the core issues.

    I am pleased about that.

But you are still log jammed on politics. This issue trancends politics. It is bigger than politics, and those who can see the technological imperatives are already well out of the blocks and making good headway.

The only play that politics can make now over corporate world is to jump on the runaway train; craft some bold policy announcements and try to assume some ownership of the inevitable technological outcomes that will prevail.

So with or without politics getting all the media attention, the result will still be the same.

So calm down a bit Silent Running and stay focused. You make a lot more sense when in a calm state of mind.
