“The Wall” — An Update

aaaHere’s a wonderful video outlining the history of the proposed wall on the U.S./Mexico border.  The latest, of course, is that Trump cannot pay for the wall without Congress, and appears willing to shut down the federal government as required to extort the $25 billion required for the project.

An old friend from high school makes a few remarks: This is a fabulous compendium of just about every lie Trump ever told about “The Wall.” Watch it and rejoice … because none of it will ever come true. Of course, Mexico is not going to pay for “The Wall.” No one with a brain ever thought it would. And no, Mexico is not going to reimburse us for “The Wall.” And guess what? We’re damn sure not gonna pay for “The Wall” ourselves. Not $8 billion. Not $10 billion. Not $25 billion. Never. Trump wants to shut down the government over it? Bring it on.

I would love to believe this is true; the vast majority of Americans oppose the construction of the wall, and so one would hope that members of Congress would support their constituents. Of course, that will happen if and only if the will of the people happens to coincide with the will of the wealthy donors, but I have to think that’s the case here.

On top of everything, the wall would inflict horrific damage to the wildlife living in the area and to the environment generally, as attested to by 2500 scientists.

    Craig,

Once again you have absolutely exposed the weakness in those opposing President Trump’s policies.

Of course the US can force Mexico to pay for the Wall or suffer the consequences of a trade war with the US. The US has far greater resources and ability to force the issue than Mexico.

Mexico could avoid such consequences by simply policing the border with greater vigilance thereby avoiding both a trade war and the need for a wall.

The majority of Americans want to resolve the problem of illegal migration. The weakness for anyone opposing the President’s plan, is when all the fashionable laughter and sniggering has died away and the late night comedian’s show ends, away from the braying of the chattering classes of pseudo-intellectual leftist celebrities and media, when people start to think quietly, they realize no alternative has been offered.

Nothing else has worked. It’s a harsh melancholic fact that only tough, ruthlessly enforces border control policies are effective against an increasingly evil, but sophisticated people smuggling trade.

As Europe discovered, compassion and generosity only exist in the local population as long as migration is carefully managed, allowing only an appropriate percentage that can be comfortably accommodated.

The US public, like any public, do not want to be swamped by a flood of illegal, undocumented migrants and will no longer accept a hypocritical, ineffective pretense of border security.

The problem for those opposing the President is they have nothing to offer except “open borders” !

Personally, I admire those US ‘would be’ Politicians who espouse “open borders”. At least they’re honest. Although only a very small percentage voters will support such a mad policy, attract, at least these candidates possess integrity.

For the rest of the anti-Trumpers, their electoral hopes will perish as the President successfully plays the integrity card, asking “there’s my plan, which I was elected to carry out, where’s your alternate plan!”

The electorate won’t listen to the same old distortions, pretenses and feeble excuses, the majority of Americans are demanding resolute action and if that means the President must fight not only large GOP donor, and their new best friends among liberals and democrats, well, as he’s already told Charles and David Koch ” I’m for America First and the American Worker, I’m a puppet for no one !”

GOP candidates and legislators will be caught between the allure of their largest donors and the rank and file of the party in the primaries. The rank and file of the GOP is 90 % supportive of the President and policies, woe betide the GOP politician who defies his constituents.

I hate to say this, but very few Americans care about the affect of border security on wildlife ! Most associate Central and Southern American wildlife as dangerous vermin and pests, and if a wall kept them out it would be a good thing !
