Shocking News: Trump Lied About Clean Power Plan, Paris Accord

woman-933488_960_720From ThinkProgress:

(As if you need to be told) Everything President Trump has said about President Obama’s climate plan and why he had to pull the United States out of the 2015 Paris Climate Accord turns out to be a lie. That’s the inescapable conclusion from the EPA’s 289-page “Regulatory Impact Analysis,” (RIA) released by the administration on Tuesday along with Trump’s new “Affordable Clean Energy Plan.”

This new analysis reports a very low cost of complying with Obama’s much-vilified “Clean Power Plan,” (CPP) which set the rules for cleaning up the dirty U.S. power sector and was the cornerstone of America’s climate pledge at Paris. Trump’s EPA now calculates that achieving the emissions reductions of the CPP would cost just $700 million in 2030 dropping to $400 million in 2035. The Obama EPA’s estimate for the 2030 costs were seven times larger.

In addition to its low cost, here are a few benefits:

• Creates jobs (hardly a who-cares issue)

• Makes the U.S. competitive in the global cleantech market, destined to be the defining industry of the 21st Century

• Saves lives, keeps people out of the hospital, and reduces healthcare costs

• Removes dependence on oil, reducing global conflict–again, saving lives

Worth doing, IMO.

    Craig,

It’s quite obvious you either have never read the entire “Paris Agreement” or misread it completely.

An article from a leftist publication quoting vague, and unsubstantiated hypotheses act “fact” hardly prove the President wrong, nor establishes he “lied” about anything.

The terms “lie” “Truth” even “fact” have become so twisted and misused in the hyperbole of media jargon as to have lost all original meaning.

In a war of headlines, tweets and social media, truncated phrases are manipulated for political purpose.

Headlines such as “Health Experts warn 2000 more deaths from Coal” , turns out to be from a study compiled by some dubious source with a vague finding that coal smog ‘may’ result in the “premature” death among elderly patients. No one bothers to read the full study, which attribute “premature” in terms of days or even hours, or a possible contributing factor. These “studies” are mostly just based on a calculation of statistics which ignore terms like “may” “could” “contributing”, with calculations of the sort which end up with .3 of a person !

The problem is with this kind of nonsense is to the “true believer” the headline becomes a unassailable “fact”, and if repeated enough times becomes a widely believed myth.

    What should be “Shocking News” is the deliberate lie from Think Progress;

” Since Trump took office, the economics of coal power has gotten worse and worse, especially compared to solar and wind power — so much so that the rate of collapse of coal plants has more than doubled “.

The main competition for Coal is not “Solar and Wind” ,but a fellow fossil fuel, Natural Gas.

Why is this a “lie” not just an error of mistake, because only a month before, the same author, writing in the same publication, in an article, “Trump can’t save Coal” claimed natural gas was the main cause of coal plant closures !

The same author also claimed coal production in the US had declined under the Trump administration. To be charitable, the author could just be lying, or just confused and wrong.

In fact Coal production is up 19% and growing rapidly.

What really is increasing are world prices for natural gas, in particular, LPG. With increasing demand for coal and natural gas prices are increasing attracting back investment and greater incentive for clean(er) coal technology and hi tech mining methods.

New production processes in such emission intensive industries as concrete manufacture are growing to rely on the by-products of Coal fired generation to lower overall green house emissions.

All these benefits terrify both the “Never Coal” “leave it in the Ground” and “Never Trump” advocates, funded by huge vested interests such as Jeff Bezos and the huge renewable energy lobby made up of some of the worlds largest corporations.

This unholy alliance cares little about the environment, or US prosperity, but a lot about globalization and their own profits.

  2. Who would’ve thought that Trump lied*sarcastically*. Maybe he didn’t lie. Maybe he thinks that he is the only one capable of being right.
