Public Transportation and Sustainability

1185202_10151807463614805_947035749_nI love this meme.  So true.

Our attempt at public transportation here in the U.S. is spotty.  New York City and San Francisco are served very well, and most other cities have a decent attempt, but shockingly, most of our airports are disconnected from our rail systems, and, outside of the corridor from Washington D.C. to Boston, those systems are virtually nonexistent.  You can take a train from downtown Los Angeles to Las Vegas, New Mexico (population 13,000), but not to  Las Vegas, Nevada (population 642,000, and host to 43 million visitors annually).

Putting more cars on the road is not a path to sustainability, regardless of what they have under their hoods.
