Humankind at a Climate Crossroads

header-alaska-warmingI know I’ve posted and commented on this timeline (below) before, which maps the path of human civilization over the past 22,000 years alongside global temperatures–yet it bears repeating. Wouldn’t it be great if everyone had at least some command of these key facts?

We’re at a point now where even optimistic scenarios are frightening.  Which way from here?

It’s all up to us.

    Craig,

You may wonder why the vast majority of people have little interest in the prognostications of your little chart.

Doomsday charts, stentorian sermons and apocalyptic sermons have been delivered throughout human history. Each warn of the dire consequences of failing to adhere to the preaching of various prophets, seers, pundits etc.

So far, the prophesies of doom predicted have not actually ever eventuated, despite not radical changes in human behavior occurring.

I’ll grant you public apathy isn’t necessarily a good thing, but dramatic disruptions and attempts to impose utopian ideologies always ends in misery, poverty and bloodshed.

Crying “Wolf!” continuously, is just counter-productive and when prophets, seers, pundits refuse to engage in debate or even consider more moderate analysis, can you wonder the general public simply turns away , weary of all the fanaticism and lack of credibility?

People will eagerly support sensible well thought out projects and policies which are clearly in their benefit, but have grown tired of ideologically driven, tax-payer funded, programs which restrict freedom and choice and have no demonstrable benefit.

Here’s an instance. The signatories to the “Paris Agreement” were convinced by a “consensus” of scientists to invest billions in saving the island nation of Tuvalu from sinking beneath the waves due to sea level rise. ( the islands should be underwater by now).

Everyone was made to feel bad that these islanders were losing their home through the evils of the industrialized world.

…..except, it didn’t happen ! In fact the island nation is actually growing in size! That would be okay, but the phenomenon has yet to be acknowledged or even debated by climate change “true believers” , so why would anyone still listen to the bleatings of such fanatics.

Instead, let’s ask a precocious little Greta Thunberg, eh? I’m sure she can provide a detailed explanation!

There is your answer, not an answer you may like, but one perpaps you should consider…
