Amphibious Electric Vehicles

Is the total market for these small amphibious EVs really projected to be $4.7 billion by 2027?  Well, I’m sure, if you ask the guy who proposes to build them and who wants you to invest in his company.

Some reasons I’m skeptical:

• The power output required to make this thing hover across water at the speeds shown here must be enormous.  That means either a) huge, expensive battery packs, or b) extremely short durations of continuous use, both of which are deal-killers.

• It’s marketed for use in package delivery?  Think about how rare the occasion would be that would make this vehicle practical for that purpose. Hey, we need to take this parcel to a place across that small lake, but there are no roads over there.  Does that sound like something that often happens in the real world?

• It’s marketed for use in search and rescue? I would have to think that severely limited range would be a serious objection here.  I would certainly hope so, if my kid were drowning.

• The video shows an artist’s rendering.  You can’t even build one that actually works?  I’m always leery when I come across this.

Sorry, no.
