3047060508_737c7687bd_oA client asked me to read this report from mega-consulting form McKinsey, concerning pathways by which the four top CO2-emitting commodity-producing industries (ammonia, cement, ethylene and steel) can move to a low-carbon future.  Here are a few comments: (more…)

56492496_10157089201347173_240158417820319744_nI laughed out loud at this cartoon, perhaps only because of the considerable ribbing my father received when I was in my graduate program in philosophy.  On the golf course one afternoon, one of Dad’s friends asked him, “How’s the job market out there for all those newly minted professional philosophers?” (more…)

UntitledHas anyone else noticed that it’s getting harder to recognize the difference between humor from news?  As our world disintegrates into ignorance and hate, perhaps this shouldn’t come as a shock, but I have to confess that I’m having a deuce of a time with this. (more…)

guide_waterpollution_66615937_2400Here in the good ol’ USA, we have three branches of the federal government: the legislative (makes laws), the judiciary (interprets laws), and the executive (enforces law and appoints judges to the judiciary).  Case in point, the Clean Water Act was created by the legislative branch to protect the safety of all Americans by ensuring toxins stay out of our waterways and thus our drinking water, passing both the House and the Senate with huge bipartisan support.  (more…)

Dishonesty-title-image-Dec-16Here is the result of some fact-checking on Trump’s recent statements on wind energy and electric transportation; readers can guess how it turned out.

The only thing that makes it noteworthy is that it suggests that someone somewhere could possibly believe Trump to be a credible source of information on the topic, given that a) he lies constantly on the broadest possible range of matters, and b) because of his allegiance with Big Oil, he actually has a reason to lie in this case.   (more…)

photo5823588956451746547As you look through the photos in this article “Nearly All of Yemen Demonstrates Against 4 Full Years of US-Saudi Attacks” (of which the one to the left is an example), consider that all the misery you’re looking at is one of the byproducts of oil in our civilization.

Electric transportation will reduce Saudi Arabia to near-complete irrelevance, taking along with it the kingdom’s U.S.-backed evil. Can’t happen soon enough.

The United States can cease committing atrocities, but only when that’s no longer in the financial interests of its uber-rich.

56281536_10161664634995224_2213463279198535680_nThe statement to the left here is very much worth reading, as it speaks so beautifully to the core reason that the nation is so divided at this point.

The mayor refers to what’s called a “false dichotomy,” not unlike, “You’re either with me or against me.”  (No, there are a great many people about whom I couldn’t care less.)

There are no people who want an insecure border.  There are no people who want lawlessness.  There are no people who don’t care who is coming into this country, and for what purpose.    (more…)

2250 megawatt coal-fired power plant

At a glance, the coal industry looks like this:

• The U.S. is phasing it out, not because of environmental issues, but because of the relatively low cost of natural gas and renewable energy. We do, however, export the stuff. (more…)
