A reader sent me this piece in which U.S. Senator and 2016 presidential GOP hopeful Rand Paul rips into a scientist who warns of possible mass extinctions if we continue along our current course re: gloabl warming. Rand said: “The sky is falling, Mass extinction? Really?”

As we learned to our horror yesterday, the U.S. has again elected to make itself the pariah of the world, this time with its decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord. But is there any reason to be surprised? Here are a few ideas to consider:

Here’s some good news that I came across on Facebook just now: From Business Insider: America’s first offshore wind farm launched with GE turbines twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty. It really does appear that offshore wind is going to be an important element of the grid-mix of the future, largely because the turbines themselves can be utterly massive.
Research has shown that positive interactions with animals can raise levels of the hormone oxytocin, which helps encourage healing and new cell growth. Therefore, having a pet isn’t good just because you can cuddle and play with them all day long, but also because they can actually improve your health.
