Craig’s Clean Energy PicksOver the past six years, I’ve sunk an enormous amount of time and other resources into vetting literally thousands of renewable energy business concepts to winnow out what I believe to be the very best investment opportunities in this arena.

Pick a technology.  Maybe you’re looking for a fund composed of privately held run-of-river hydro projects, or publicly traded solar PV concerns, or literally any other technology in this space. Perhaps you’d like to bet on alternative energy as a whole, or something on the periphery: energy storage, efficiency, alt-fuel transportation, smart grid, etc.

Or pick a geography.  I have very tight ties to an analyst who do nothing but study Brazil, to choose one at random.

In any case, I invite anyone who wants my viewpoints on any of this to call or write me anytime.

I’m not a broker/dealer, so I can’t get involved in marketing securities, but there’s no law against offering an educated opinion, and I’m not at all shy about that—neither (at the risk of sounding immodest) am I uninformed.

Fraudulent Energy ProductsI often mention all the clean energy products I come across on a daily basis, and how some of them are fraudulent.  Here’s a typical company/concept that makes my point: AI Power.

I just got off the phone with the guy who told me that it uses the energy in magnets (there isn’t any) to take a 6 Watt input and turn it into a 100 Watt output.  (more…)

No Limit To Damage Associated with Koch Brothers' Business PracticesFrequent commenter MarcoPolo writes:

You may argue that the Koch brothers are “pathologically selfish.” They may respond, with equal justification, that it’s you who are selfish, and bound up in self-righteous moralizing.

The Kochs can point to the employment they provide for 150,000 families directly, and millions more indirectly. They could point out that most of their “wealth” is tied up in the enterprises that produce the wealth and prosperity the nation depends upon. What you call, “pathologically selfish”, they would call “responsibility.” (more…)

UCLA’s “Grand Challenges” Cheerfully Takes on the Tough Realities Facing SustainabilityOptimists out there will respond well to what UCLA is doing out here in Southern California with its Grand Challenges,  as explained in the very well-made videos linked above.

Not to split hairs, but I think of myself as a meliorist, rather than an optimist.  I’m not confident that things are going to turn out well here on planet Earth, but I know for a fact that you and I can make a difference for the better.

Eco-Friendly Changes to your Daily RoutineLots of people want to do their part for the environment, but are unsure how best to go about it. For some, it is already a way of life, but for those not raised to be 100% eco-friendly at all times, it can be tough to figure out what changes they can make to their lives.

Here’s a little fact that may shock you folks in distant lands: One of our leading congressmen, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (pictured), is doing everything in his power to overturn our federal government’s limits on power plant pollution. (more…)

Wind Energy Is Making a Huge ContributionA conservative reader who has displayed a circumspect attitude towards renewable energy notes: Wind, Solar, Wave, Bio-fuels, Geo-thermal, and lots of other alternate energy technologies, are valid subjects for research.

I urge him to keep in mind that wind is already 5% of the U.S. grid mix; there are 370 gigawatts installed worldwide, with a CAGR of 16.2%. Denmark derives 40% of its energy from wind.  I would assert that it’s far beyond the “research” phase.
