As a Pennsylvanian, you don’t have to tell me that the middle part of the state is bright red, politically.  Yet the Keystone State is home to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, and is dotted with wonderful small colleges and universities in its interior: Bucknell University, Lafayette College, Penn State University, Lehigh University, Dickinson College, Franklin & Marshall College, and Gettysburg College.

This bodes very poorly for the victor in the Republican gubernatorial primary, Doug Mastriano, who is a garden-variety Trump supporter, along with all the hate and ignorance that this implies.

I’m not sure the United States needed one more blow against reason, honesty, and human decency, but it got one nonetheless.

A man worth $200 billion, with one of the biggest mouths in America, is suggesting that the Democrats “have become the party of division and hate,” and has announced that he’ll be voting Republican.  This, of course, is the party controlled by Donald Trump, our country’s most potent force behind bald-faced lies and white-collar crime (not to mention division and hate).

Btw, Elon, no “dirty tricks” are required here; it’s sufficient merely to publish your statements without alteration.

It’s very clear that the Republicans are sabotaging life in America so they can blame our woes on the Democrats.

This isn’t even particularly well disguised.

When you’re not above starving babies, you know you have serious moral issues.

Here’s another solid graphical reminder of what the beef industry is doing to our planet.

The plant- and lab-based meat industry is under an intense PR attack; I think it’s clear why.

The stupidity and hate that is now front and center in the Republican party was hidden from view until just recently.  Now the GOP is embarked on an overtly transparent mission to:

• Find the most ignorant and mean-spirited people in the country. (The mission will not succeed when applied to people smart enough to see what’s actually happening.)

• Create and disseminate messaging that appeals to their abominable values. (more…)

Most Americans would agree that the level of insanity of the Fox News talking points is increasing at an unchecked rate.  Yet the idea that we can support Putin in Ukraine because he hasn’t injured us personally sets a new bar for our most disgusting lack of any sort of moral integrity.  (more…)

We live in a day in which so many elements of our society have changed, perhaps irrevocably, and most definitely for the worse. (more…)

The angry gentleman here is far from alone in his disgust with the Republican party, but his thinking that the GOP cannot be saved is, unfortunately, incorrect.  It’s true that there is defection from the party, but to whom are these people with their Reagan-esque values going to gravitate?  Bernie Sanders?

Of course not.  They will be forced to refashion the GOP back into what it looked like before the Orange Sociopath came to town and the entire platform became one of nothing but lies, hatred, ignorance, greed, and violence against all who see the world differently.

No, all this insanity is not sustainable; it can’t last in perpetuity.  That’s because, as a country, we are stupid, but that stupidity has hard limits, and we appear to have reached them.

Re: the meme here, a reader notes: Wait a damn minute… you mean you might have more votes when I wake up tomorrow?!?! Pro-Trump GOP Senate candidate standing next to wife who worked for Trump in the White House puts his faith in mail-in ballots.
Can’t make this stuff up.
Oh, you’re thinking back to when GOP candidates needed to make some level of sense with their acts and deeds. All that evaporated in 2016.

Most of what I cover on the blog here isn’t particularly good news, but here’s an exception: We’re nearing the point at which we’ll never have to hear the name “Madison Cawthorn” again in our entire lives.
