Lots of truth to that.
I too am skeptical of people who claim to be experts in cryptocurrencies. But my suspicions are raised even higher when the same people have previously been experts in epidemiology and constitutional law.
It’s important to keep in mind that the United States is making real social progress, even in the face of all the stupidity.
It’s quite possible that, when we look back on the Biden administration, we’ll see a great deal of advancement in a number of different arenas.
There appears to be so much nonsense in today’s political strategies here in the U.S. Obviously the far-right wing is getting great mileage out of ridiculing the idea of “wokeness,” a word that hateful and ignorant people use to discredit the values that all Americans used to share: fairness, compassion, and decency. But do you seriously want to direct this anger against Disney?
My mother grew up on “Steamboat Willie” in the late 1920s. Later in her life, “Snow White” and “Cinderella” came along. Smoking weed and going to Disney World was very popular in my college days. After my kids wore out the VHS recordings, my wife and I took them to see Broadway productions of “The Lion King” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
These people have 203,000 employees, a market cap of $226 billion, and the abiding respect of most Americans. Picking on the Karl Marx Foundation makes sense, but Disney?
Was Russia’s support of Donald Trump and its intervention in our 2016 elections an act of deliberate sabotage?
There is no direct proof–at least none that has been made public, yet it’s hard for the mind not to connect the dots.

It’s easy to hate the values of the present-day Republican party. Today’s Democratic party, though its morals are higher, is also hard to admire, if only for its amazing ineptitude at political messaging.
Review the list of what Democrats have accomplished on behalf of the common American, and then ask yourself: How on Earth is it possible that the U.S. working class has started to vote for Trump and his disgusting bunch of thugs/colleagues?
The meat industry says “It’s what’s for dinner”; it doesn’t market its product as “bloody, murdered cows.” McDonald’s customer are told that they “are loving it,” not that they’re “pre-diabetic.”
The Democratic party is certainly not for everyone; I understand that they are never going to appeal to the white nationalists and the greedy billionaires. But it’s losing autoworkers? Women? Parents who want good educations and clean air for their kids?
How hard can this be?
They’re underpaid. Their efforts to discipline unruly students is thwarted at every turn. They bring in their own supplies, and spend countless unpaid hours on lesson planning.
It may have appeared that our society had done everything conceivable to remove teachers’ incentives and self-respect. But no. (more…)
Re: the photo here, a reader notes: There are 33.7 KWh in a gallon of gas. At those prices, you would have to spend $5.38 on the electric to get the equivalent ‘umph’ as the gas.
What he fails to understand, of course, is that internal combustion engines are about 20% efficient, as opposed to the charging and discharging of batteries, which is about 80% efficient.
Also, the processes by which gasoline is made are themselves horrifically inefficient. Imagine extracting tar sands in Alberta, sending it to Houston, refining it, and distributing it to the nation’s gas stations.
