I was rather hoping that this was a joke, that it didn’t actually happen.  What does Elon Musk gain by acting so badly?  But no such luck.

Yes, the electrification of transportation is a big deal, but the planet is burning, and the people with the big fire extinguishers should be using them.  In any case, being rotten to people who are trying to help is despicable.

Hope this makes you smile, as it did me.

I know I’m not alone in saying that I’m so glad I’m not in the dating scene at this point in U.S. history.  There are simply too many people walking around who are some combination of crazy, dishonest, gullible, fanatical, mean, stupid, addicted, racist, dirt poor/in debt, and in failing health.

Not all ignorant people are racists, but all racists are ignorant.

That in and of itself is a good reason to fund public education.

America was blessed to have one of the best human beings the world has ever produced as its president in the late 1970s.

Carter’s aspirations for his country, shown here, may never be achieved, but it won’t be because he didn’t do everything in his power to bring them about.

It’s both perplexing and terrifying that the Republican Party has shifted so far to the ultra-right in just the last five years.

Think of how unlikely January 6th would have been in Nixon’s day.  No Kyle Rittenhouse, Steve Bannon, Roger Stone, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Donald Trump, anti-vaxxers, science deniers, white nationalists driving cars into peaceful protesters, death threats to school board members and election officials.

Nixon resigned because he had committed a crime and no one was above the law.

Twas in another lifetime.

Here’s something from a lifelong Republican, asking, in all sincerity, what it means to be a member of the GOP.

I never shared conservatives’ values, even when I was a small boy and both my parents were Republicans.  Yet at least I didn’t consider them criminally insane.  Sure can’t say that any more.

Alex Jones, who claimed the Sandy Hook shooting was a “giant hoax,” was found liable for damages in lawsuits brought by parents of children killed in the shooting.

A reader, apparently someone from abroad, asks: I don’t understand why he would say that was a hoax. What was his rationale? I mean a mentally insane young man did something unspeakable. I don’t understand why someone would say that it was a hoax.

Believe it or not, in the United States, there are many millions of mentally defective people who firmly believe that our government is actively trying to enslave us, removing our rights, destroying our traditions, our moral norms, and above all, nullifying our Constitution.  Alex Jones capitalizes (soon to be past tense, capitalized) on them, feeding them lies that fit into that delusion, and then selling them overpriced products designed to protect them from these imaginary government attacks.
Among these lies is that the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School never took place; it was hoax designed to increase public support for gun control, which, if implemented, would establish boundaries on our Second Amendment.

This was a severe miscalculation on the conman’s part, which, it appears, will drive him into bankruptcy.

About 75 years ago Herman Herring gave a testimony in the Nuremberg court, he was asked:  “How did you force the German people to accept all this?”
He replied: “It was easy, it has nothing to do with Nazism, it is related to human nature. This can be done in a Nazis, socialist, communist regime, monarchy and even in terms of democracy. The only thing you need to do to enslave people is to scare them. If you can find a way to scare people, you can make them do what you want.”
Hmmm.  Here in America, we do seem to have a party putting the fear of God into people. Illegal aliens. Governmental control. Stolen elections. Runaway inflation. Gun confiscation. Socialism. Critical race theory. Political correctness.  Defunding the police. Job loss.  Corrupt scientists. Handouts.  Deadly vaccines.
Interesting.

The Borowitz Report: The basis for Steve Bannon’s arrest is a rarely enforced 1858 statute requiring White House employees to conform to minimal standards of hygiene during their tenure with the executive branch.

I thoroughly enjoy the work of Andy Borowitz, though I have to confess it makes me slightly angry with myself when I’m forced to contemplate the question: Why can’t I do that?

Bannon arrested for contempt.  Bannon known for poor hygiene.  Nothing hidden here.  Once you see it, it’s so obvious.

It’s like watching Jeopardy and having the correct response on the tip of my tongue.  It’s there, but it’s just out of reach.

Here’s a development in materials science whose creators claim will help cities manage water run-off from the storms that are worsening due to climate change.  It’s essentially a porous paver, absorbing far more water than the traditional substances, and then slowly releasing it into the ground beneath it.

Let’s suppose there is some benefit in terms of refilling aquifers and reducing flood damage.  Can this possibly represent a cost-effective solution, considering the vast areas that are exposed to flood waters?
