Get a load of this advertisement for some slob running for governor of Nevada.

The overall political sentiments of Nevada are mixed.  Biden narrowly beat Trump in 2020: 50.06% to 47.67%. Yet, to use MSNBC’s terms, this “Trump-loving, gun-toting, truck-driving” mentality is quite competitive there.

What an embarrassment it is that this level of thinking is appealing to so many Americans.

It would be easy to look at what’s going on in the United States right now and conclude that all our former sense of humor and whimsy has been replaced by racial hatred and other forms of divisiveness.

Wrong.

Where else can one find the annual “witches paddle?”

Is there a correlation between the tantrums of infants and the atrocious behavior these people display when they become adults? Probably.

This, I’m sure, is more of a joke than anything, but it does shed light on the terrible conduct of people like the anti-vaxxers, who are physically attacking those of us who would obey laws and act so as to eradicate COVID-19 as soon as possible.

This is from 1st Century BCE Latin author Publilius Syrus, a fellow who probably wouldn’t  have been on anyone’s radar screens were it not for Donald Trump and the regime of hatred and corruption he has built around himself. (more…)

Imagine you’re a physicist in the late 19th Century.  Everything pertaining to mechanics, electrodynamics, and the wave theory of light is already in the bag.  Einstein is still working in a patent office in Switzerland.  The idea that light can behave like a particle and open up an entire new realm of science has yet to be hatched.  You might have made the same mistake pictured here.

125 years later, it’s clear that the gap between our understanding of the origins and nature of the universe and the actual truth is only getting wider.

On a related note, the questioning of science is in the news currently.  Unfortunately, it’s being done by people who know nothing about the subject, and thus do not understand that science is an evolving matter, particularly when it comes to developing tests, vaccines and treatment options for novel diseases.

I often hear people say things like, “The scientists don’t know what they’re doing, since they’re constantly changing their minds.”  Of course they are.  That’s how this works.

Again, it’s best if the relevant set of scientists is doing the questioning, rather than manicurists and landscape architects.

Is Trump wanna-be Glenn Youngkin seriously a live candidate in the Virginia gubernatorial race?  I doubt it.

Sure, like every state, Virginia has its rural regions and the yokels, most of whom support Trump, who inhabit them. But the state’s heavily populated regions are the towns and cities within a commute of Washington DC, and those that surround Virginia’s numerous colleges and universities.  These are localities where it takes work to even find a Trump supporter.  (more…)

Here’s a post from energy analyst Robert Rapier.
At least half a dozen of my friends have shared this meme, so let’s use it as a lesson in critical thinking. This was posted a few days ago by Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
What’s the first glaring thing you should see wrong with this meme? The time frame starts in September 2020. Trump was still president, and would be president for nearly five more months. Do you know how much oil prices increased during that time? 43%. Do you know how many of you complained about it? None. So, one might ask whether you simply don’t know this, or whether you do know and you believe the end justifies the means.

As previously mentioned, 2GreenEnergy headquarters is located in a rural part of Central California, and it’s about as “God and country” a place as you’re going to find anywhere.  When the 2020 presidential election was called, dozens of signs went up declaring that Trump had won, and the insurrection of January 6th actually fueled the fire.  “Don’t tread on me,” some folks’ flags threatened.

Now, however, almost 11 months later, all those flags have come down.  Even the local rednecks seem to have gotten the word that the Big Lie was precisely that, and that the insurrectionists are criminals who, one by one, are pleading guilty to the misdemeanors and felonies of which they were accused, and being sent off to prison, presumably with reduced sentences.

My point: Yes, we have yokels.  But we don’t have a single one of the caliber of the jackass in the boat above.

As my wife often points out, there is something about female Trump supporters that makes them even more repulsive than their male counterparts.

To me, it’s a combination of Trump’s lifelong pattern of misogyny and the notion that women are supposed to be kinder and less ruthless than men.

At first blush, it may appear absurd that the U.S. president would be involved in a full-on coup attempt, especially one that seems to have left a hefty line of evidence.

Keep in mind, however, and this is something my wife often points out, that a) Trump came into the presidency believing he could get away with anything, since that’s what he’s been doing his entire adult life, and b) that with each passing impeachment acquittal, he feels that much more empowered.

Let’s get this investigation moving.
