From this:

An explosive report in Rolling Stone just revealed that multiple members of Congress were intimately involved in planning both Trump’s efforts to overturn his election loss and the Jan. 6 events that turned violent. Those named include Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-Ga.), Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.), Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), and Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas.)

Oh no!  Not Louie Gohmert!

Not climate denier, antivaxxer/COVID hoaxer, Capitol stormer apologist, homophobe, gun rights absolutist, cartoon caricature of himself, Islamophobe, and one of the most embarrassingly stupid members of the House.  Say it ain’t so.

Expelled?

May I suggest charged, tried, convicted, and incarcerated?

Yes, this is true, but Trump is very good at protecting something far more dear to them than the Bible or the character of Christ, and that is one thing only: white supremacy.

Evangelical Christianity has no connection with Jesus Christ whatsoever, and is more or less antithetical to His core teachings and the main beliefs that attracted His original followers: love, mercy, charity, peace, compassion for the poor and sick, and forgiveness.

It will be a very sad event in U.S. history if the perpetrators of the January 6th insurrection are not brought to justice.

In fact, in a sense, if could be the last event in history of the U.S. as we’ve come to know it.

The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees “equal protection under the law,” meaning that law enforcement/justice can’t treat a certain class of citizens differently than another. Of course, there are numerous obvious violations of this clause, e.g., “stop and frisk” aimed at young black men.

As suggested in the headline above, the Philadelphia City Council just enacted a law that will make a material difference here.

The photo above features my parents’ country club. Trust me, there were no cops in the vicinity laying in wait to pull over white kids for failing to signal a turn.

It’s pathetic to hear people maligning democratic socialism who couldn’t even tell you what the phrase means.

A friend told me many decades ago that the United States is eventually going to look like Europe and Scandinavia, or it’s going to be an extremely unpleasant place to live.  Sadly, it looks like we’re headed in the latter direction, because the Bernie Sanders of the world are making precious little progress.

Once you’ve turned over your  law-making process to people who are paid handsomely by the top 0.1%, it’s very hard to regain any semblance of government of, by, and for the people.

There a great deal to admire about New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, but perhaps it’s her willingness to be transparent (as shown here) that’s on the top of the list.

Our civilization needs to marginalize those whose selfishness and willful ignorance makes them an impediment to controlling the pandemic.

Yes, they have the right to remain unvaccinated.  Fortunately, we have the right to remove them from the workplace, from aircraft, from schools, and from public places like restaurants.

For those who want to raise the stakes and commit acts of violence, we have the right to throw them in jail.

There’s a workaround for even the most disgusting people on the face of the Earth.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports the first projected rise in the generation of coal-fired electricity since 2014.

It’s small, but it shows that the U.S. Congress has been unable to get anywhere with respect to the transition from fossil fuels to low-carbon energy sources.

It’s good to know that there is an occasional laugh associated with this phenomenon that seems to have taken over a significant number of Americans’ minds.

Keep in mind, however, that some conspiracy theories are true.  It appears that we may soon find out the truth surrounding the JFK assassination.  Will anyone be surprised to learn that Lee Harvey Oswald did not act alone?

I heartily recommend A.Word.A.Day from wordsmith.org.  Great boost to the vocab, and lots of other insight, including “A thought for today,” from the writings of someone born on this day:

Those who compare the age in which their lot has fallen with a golden age which exists only in imagination, may talk of degeneracy and decay; but no man who is correctly informed as to the past will be disposed to take a morose or desponding view of the present. -Thomas Babington Macaulay (pictured), author and statesman (25 Oct 1800-1859) (more…)
