So what’s the point? That if Tasmania (population 515K) can do it, anyone can? Of course not. Yet it’s worth acknowledging that efforts toward noble causes generally have good results, and, in this case, a state the size of South Carolina will never use another molecule of fossil fuel (or uranium) in its electricity production.

• Sure, there are people who have routine commutes to work, but, insofar as they go other places too, they’re going to need to have two different cars, and that means two depreciation and maintenance schedules, insurance policies, etc. Who wants that?
• The car is tiny, meaning that it’s uncomfortable and unsafe.
• The MSRP is $18,500. (!) The (full size) Nissan Leaf is only $31,600.
• Newly established automakers scare the bejeepers out of prospective customers, as there is no track record of customer satisfaction, and no reason to believe the company will be in business long enough to honor its warranty.
Doesn’t sound like a winner to me.

That all these terrible effects Trump has caused will be his legacy is written in stone at this point, but there is so much that we can’t foresee as yet:
• How many deaths and injuries will result from Trump’s convincing his followers that the election was rigged, and inciting them to violence.
• What steps will Trump take to avoid criminal prosecution, of both himself and his family. (more…)

One day shortly before Christmas when my kids were little, we happened to be outside a department store, and I told them, “I want you to know that there is nothing in that store that I need, or even want. Not one thing. I would appreciate a Christmas present, but it would mean so much more to me if it’s something you created. Please write me a poem, paint me a picture, whatever you want.”
Infinite growth on a planet of finite size is not possible.



Before you answer that in your head, consider that the situation is actually far worse than simply restoring a few American values that have somehow gone missing. (more…)
