Just wanted to post a reminder that frivolity, whimsy, and just plain fun have not been removed from American life. We take all our challenges very seriously, as we should, but in the end, all we have is each other and the joy of life itself.

The country would be in a better place if Trump were to do that with his foundering bid for re-election, but it appears that this isn’t happening, something anyone could have predicted since the day he came to office.

Whoever wrote this sure captured my fears.
If this were any other president, any other justice department, and any other Supreme Court, no one would be talking like this.
We’re used to rule of law kicking in and restoring justice, but in the back of our minds we know Trump’s capacity for his own survival and enrichment at the expense of everyone else on the planet, and it has shown itself, thus far at least, to be limitless.
According to bipartisan studies, voting, both in person and by mail, has a long history of reliability in the United States, with incidence of fraud very rare.
That Trump is not conceding isn’t because he has any facts on his side, it’s because it’s something he simply lacks the capacity to do.
At this point in most of his dealings over the past few decades, he would normally declare bankruptcy and stiff a few hundred contractors. Given that this isn’t a possibility here, he finds himself flummoxed.
Here are some reasons why this election will not be overturned.
• The first and most important is that there is no evidence whatsoever of voter fraud, at least at any scale. As three-term Republican Senator Rick Santorum said about his home state, Pennsylvania, “The idea that there was a conspiracy to cheat on a massive level across 67 counties is just ludicrous.” (more…)
To be sure, no one knows what the world is going to be like 12 months from today vis-a-vis COVID-19, but it’s heartening to know that America’s response is now based on science and not some ridiculous act of nepotism.
I’m reminded of a conversation I had with my son when he was little, but old enough to see that my marketing consulting company was doing fairly well. He asked, “How did you know this was going to work?” I responded, “I didn’t. I just worked hard, applied what I knew about business, and used basic common sense. That’s not a guarantee of success, but it turns the odds in your favor.” (more…)
It’s hard to imagine how many books and essays are going to be written about Trump’s presidency. Some will try to explain the economic and sociological conditions that brought him to power, while others will look at the long-term effects his presence will make on world affairs, the environment, and racial relationships. In addition, there are bound to be a few that look at how this whole thing unraveled in the year 2020. (more…)
