Whoever posted this video asks, “How would you have handled this situation?”

Maybe a better question is: How did we create an environment in which a grossly underpaid teacher was forced to handle this situation?

We’re one election away from a point at which the normalization of situations like this pushes this formerly civilized country into a place from which it will never completely return.

My heart is broken.

Whoever created the meme here nailed it.  Shouldn’t that be enough?

Sure, we can talk about all the lies, the cruelty, the environmental irresponsibility, obstruction, extortion, the dictators, our allies, tax fraud, bank fraud, campaign finance violations, and negligent homicide.

But, when we simply reread the meme here, don’t we have enough to understand that he’s totally unfit to be president?

The judicial and legislative branches have had a tough time reining in Trump, and certainly that’s partially because he has been so effective in stacking the courts and terrorizing the Republican-led Senate.  Yet every once in a while, someone stands up and blocks something he desperately wanted to do.

In this case, that something is denying supplemental nutrition from 700,000 people who are out of work due to the pandemic. What good is impoverishment if you can’t inflict hunger on top of it? (more…)

Claiming that voters should re-elect you because your opponent will “listen to the scientists” might sound outlandish; it certainly would have been a laughable error anytime prior to the year 2020 and the vast ocean of ignorance that surrounds it.

Now, however, the voice of science is at odds with the entire presidential administration on a number of important issues, especially the pandemic.  Trump supporters may reject a scientific perspective on things like global warming and the environment,  but they go positively insane about the idea of a rational, coordinated attack on COVID-19.

There are few news stories getting more attention than the devastating wildfire year that the Western United States is experiencing, with more than 4.1 million acres already scorched in California alone, more than doubling the previous record (2 million acres, 2019)

As we make our way through the most pathetic few years in U.S. history, let me offer you the meme to the left.  The person who posted this saw no irony, even though I wonder whom he would name as someone who actually did talk about his accomplishments?

Consider for a moment the following people: Johannes Gutenberg, Julius Caesar, Gautama Buddha, George Washington, Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, Socrates, MLK, William Shakespeare, Charles Darwin, Alexander the Great, Galileo, Muhammad, Aristotle, Leonardo Da Vinci, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, and Jesus Christ.

All reasonably accomplished people, I would argue.  Now, does anyone, in their wildest dreams, believe that a single one of them went around talking about his achievements?

If you haven’t seen this yet, it’s extremely worthwhile. All Americans should understand just how corrupt the justice department is.

It’s sad reading, but, again, extremely important.

Here’s a conservative young female voter, imploring the Republican Party to get on board with climate change mitigation.  She cites Republicans’ interest in conservation (though she doesn’t seem to realize that this is a thing of the distant past).

Ma’am, here’s your problem–dealing with climate change requires several things that are anathema to the GOP: (more…)

No one knows how long it will take the dozens of different types of damage Trump has inflicted on the United States over the last four years to be corrected.  A good example is the meme here. If you’re white and really don’t care about other people, perhaps you don’t have a problem with lifetime appointments of white supremacists to federal judgeships. Literally everyone else considers events like these tragedies, exacerbated by the fact that they will take generations to repair.
