Now seems like a good time for all Americans to thank our brothers and sisters around the world—the brave, compassionate and intelligent people with whom we share our fragile planet, the only home we have. You saw what had happened to the United States, and with most of us, you cried. Yes, there was some mockery, though perfectly justified, but most of you echoed what a young Swede told me about a year ago, “Trump may have 8 – 10% support in Sweden, but most of us simply feel deeply sorry for you. We never, ever thought this attempt at authoritarianism could happen in the U.S.” (more…)
I laughed when I saw this, but that’s only because, as is always the case with humor, it’s based on truth.
When Trump looted the U.S. Treasury and gave $3 trillion to (mainly) the wealthiest Americans, the GOP-led senate was completely silent.
Wait until Biden wants to do something that will cost some money, like some form of a “green new deal” or anything else aimed at helping the other 99%.
On a Zoom call earlier today an old friend made the point that dishonesty in American politics “goes both ways,” citing a lie that United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence chairman Adam Schiff (pictured) apparently told in connection to the Mueller Report in the days immediately before the impeachment of Donald Trump. If I had to pick the aspect of a Biden presidency that I’m happiest to see, I guess I’d go with honesty. It’s not that Biden personally or Democrats generally are impeccably honest, but rather that what they’re replacing is easily the most corrupt and mendacious administration in the entire history of the United States. He doesn’t seem to understand what the public sector, via its tax base, provides each American: infrastructure, police, fire fighting, criminal justice, national defense, public education, labor laws, auto and food safety standards, air traffic control, TSA, libraries, emergency medical care, environmental regulation, social security, Medicare, the National Archives, national parks, bank regulations and deposit insurance, copyright and patent laws, federal dams to provide electrical power, flood control, the Weather Service, the Federal Housing Authority, consulates and embassies, FEMA, veterans affairs, public water systems, monitoring of all international cargo, NASA, border protection, and the National Institutes of Health.
Not sure this is the type of rigorous thinking required for success in today’s world.
By 2026, luxury automaker Bentley will have axed its 12-cylinder gasoline-powered monster-engine, in favor of plug-in hybrids and pure battery EVs; by 2030, the latter will become 100% of the output.
At 5400 pounds, the Bentley needs some serious torque so as not to disappoint its affluent customers, and it is for this reason that electric makes so much sense. One of the reasons that Teslas are selling like hotcakes is that, when it comes to performance, they compete with Lamborghinis and Ferraris.
On top of everything, there are many wealthy people who care about the environment, making this a win for everyone.
There is so much to be thankful for, now that Trump will be exiting the White House, one of which is lunacy like this.
I guess all you can say is demons begone.
It’s been four full years since there was one iota of class and decency in the White House, and thus we all can be excused if we’ve forgotten what something like this looks like.
