The animus circling around removing Trump while we still have a democracy here is all around us, but what lies at the core?

It’s that, with all it’s faults, the United States has been a pretty decent place to live, until 2017 rolled around.  Most of us were fairly happy; life was good.  Sure, we had stupid presidents and an occasional crook, but until now, no one was trying to turn the country into an authoritarian regime.  (more…)

Girl in mittens and hat bask near radiator

Living your life as green as possible is obviously good for the planet, but there are so many ways that a green lifestyle improves your wellbeing. Choosing to make your home green has all sorts of benefits, and you don’t have to completely overhaul your whole life to do so.

The major benefits of living in a green home are: a healthier environment through improved air quality, positive environmental impact, return on investment through energy savings, return on investment through lower maintenance costs, and more comfortable home with fewer temperature variations. “I’ve always felt that Donald Trump was a Dickensian character because he is so ridiculous, with his hair and his arrogance. He is certainly a comically repulsive character in his absurdity.

– Miriam Margolyes
British-Australian character actress and comedian, Television Arts awardee

It’s interesting that the UK totally gets this.  In truth, Trump has some support in England, largely among the rural, Brexit-loving anti-intellectuals, but the vast majority of Brits, known worldwide for their wisdom and sophistication, sees quite clearly that he’s a crass, unrefined dolt.

Among the many bizarre twists in current-day U.S. politics is the fact that progressives are now rooting for people we used to disdain: army generals, FBI and CIA directors, conservative pundits like George Will,  and now former Secretary of Homeland Security, life-long Republican Tom Ridge.

Go get ’em, Tom.

This is a sad truth.

Maybe the only remaining question is how far backward we’ll go before we turn around again.

It’s hard not to seem sorry for America’s women, non-white, LGBTQs, poor, working class, scientists…and anyone else with a conscience.

I know I’m being repetitious on this point, but I keep coming across data points that make we wonder about the dwindling cohorts that are voting for Trump, and the growing number who consider him incompetent, or worse: sociopathic, traitorous, etc.

The U.S. military is a group that, if nothing else, holds the country’s  security dear, and they respect their superior officers as well.  Of course, respecting an idea and sharing it are two different things, but what happens when someone of the stature of this retired admiral tells the Coast Guard officers and enlisted men and women, both active duty and retired, that Trump is ruining our country?

Mitt has a point here.  I guess his domestic policy is where he really shines.

Really, it’s soooo tranquil here, except for the hate, the killings, the Nazis, the looting, (more…)

Weirdest?  Sure, before January of 2017, this would have been weird beyond belief.

In those days, the only way a politician could earn the trust and respect of voters was to impress them with things like the speaker’s intelligence, honesty, compassion, and commitment to the well-being of all Americans.  Now, 42% of voters have no interest in or understanding of anything but whatever object of  hate is headlining the news. Yes, Trump, with his dishonest and self-interested botching of the COVID-19 response, restaurants have been hurt very badly.  But think of how few industries haven’t felt pain.  I suppose delivery services, e-retailers, manufacturers of face masks and toilet paper have done well, but it’s really hard to think of many business sectors that haven’t suffered a terrible shot to the gut.

As you look at the words at left, can you imagine?

I can’t, though I can imagine Biden’s winning, thus putting an end to this attempt to convert the United States into an authoritarian regime.  What America is likely to look like three months hence will likely be a lot like what it looked like before Trump took office.  In fact, the most probable state of affairs is as follows: (more…)
