A reader sent me this video, in which an ostensible expert in equities trading raves about the merits of purchasing stock in Hyliion, a start-up that claims that future sales of its electric drivetrain for Class 8 trucks is going to set the world on fire.

Craig:  Thanks very much for this, but based on my understanding of this market, I’m not a believer.  I was a consultant to a company called Efficient Drivetrains Inc. before it was sold to Cummins, and I saw how these people, with fantastic IP, struggled to find OEM and end-user customers. Though not a religious person myself, I respect those who use their faith as a springboard to lead more meaningful and virtuous lives.  For Christians, at least the kind I associate myself with, that means emulating the life of Christ and the adoption of His values–and this is unequivocally a good thing.  Such a life calls for taking care of those less fortunate, mercy, forgiveness, compassion, and trying to find the best in one another, while protecting our environment and the life forms that share our planet. Here’s what the inventor of a new wind turbine tells us in the video below:

He’s standing in a wind speed of 3 – 4 mph (let’s call it 3.5).

The device is 16′ high, and the blades start at 4′ of the ground; the blades are 4′ in diameter, meaning that the swept area (4 *12 = 48 feet²) (more…)

Stephen Colbert makes an excellent point here.  There are 14% of American voters, one out of every seven, on the fence in the coming election.  You lived in the United States these last 3.5 years and you’re not sure if you want a continuation or a change?

Who are you?  Please tell us about your thoughts and experiences.

My friend Forbes Black writes, “This is why we can’t have nice things.”

Seriously.  There is a reason that, for instance, New Zealand has been successful in beating COVID-19 into a pulp, and the pandemic continues to spin out of control here in the U.S., but does it seem likely that it’s because God favors the Kiwis over us Americans? (more…)

As a follow up to Trump’s famous: “What You’re Seeing and What You’re Reading Is Not What’s Happening,” we have this from The Hill:

Asked about why President Trump has lashed out at his former Cabinet members, calling some “incompetent” and “dumb as a rock,” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said it’s because Trump likes to hire people with opposing viewpoints: “He likes the model of having a ‘team of rivals’ like what we saw in President Lincoln’s administration,. I’ve been a part of that. I often see rigorous debate and the president uses his gut and makes the best decision how to move forward.” (more…)

From Democracy Now: In Tulsa, a white security guard faces charges of manslaughter for the fatal shooting of a Black man, Carlos Carson, in a motel parking lot earlier this month. New video emerged Friday showing Christopher Straight — a former sheriff’s sergeant — pepper-spraying, then shooting 36-year-old Carson in the head. Carlos Carson was a father of three.

I’d be very interested to know how one can commit manslaughter with a gun, let alone shooting the victim in the head. You put a bullet in another man’s brain and you didn’t intend to kill him? What precisely was your intention when you pulled the trigger?

My stock broker sent me his company’s quarterly report that, as usual, is so bland and noncommittal as to be very difficult to stay awake through.

I never put too much faith in this type of forecasting, and especially not now.  No one seems to be predicting this, but I don’t see why it’s so improbable that we’ll have a severe recession and possible depression as it becomes ever more clear that COVID-19 has: (more…)

As cities seek low-carbon alternatives, many regions are looking into microgrids. According to the US Department of Energy, a microgrid is a group of interconnected resources that act as a separate controllable energy source. There are three different types of microgrids. Remote, grid-connected and networked. The most common are remote and grid-connected. (more…)
