There was a time in American history, from 1776 through 2016 to be precise, during which it would have been unthinkable for a U.S. president to deny all responsibility for a national crisis, and to have shifted the blame from one target to another indiscriminately as time went by and the crisis got worse.  No previous White House occupant would have even thought of trying such a chicken-s*** tack, since it would have outraged the people of this country to realize that their leader was such an abject coward.

I think these guys on this “renewable energy” group on Facebook like to screw with readers, getting them to buy into the most ludicrous concepts imaginable.  Maybe they have an internal contest going, to see who can get the most “likes” for the most preposterous ideas. Most of these are not theoretically impossible, but they, like this one, come under the heading: not impossible, but fabulously impractical. (more…)

When I first got into the renewable energy field, my brother asked me a perfectly good question: why don’t the oil giants use their financial might to get into the industry.  I gave him two answers:

They have no incentive to accelerate the transition from fossil fuels to renewables, but rather to delay it as long as possible (and they’re damn good at this), and

The specific core competencies of oil exploration don’t transfer well to things like building and installing solar and wind farms, hydrokinetics, etc.

At this point, the former for the two is clearly still in place, but it appears I may have been at least partially incorrect about the latter.  Check out this article on how Norway is leveraging technology from the traditional energy field into renewables.  Impressive.

Here’s a wonderful article on the history of climate change mitigation from the standpoint of science and politics.  How were we successful in putting a spear through the use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) two decades ago, where we seem to be losing the battle to limit greenhouse gas emissions today?  We seem to be doing fairly well at assembling agreements to act, but why is it so difficult to translate these into actual action? It’s interesting to see Biden and the other Democrats with their statements about Trump’s mishandling of the pandemic, as if 3+ years of pathological lying and blatant criminality didn’t happen. (more…)

OMG!  You have to see this.

I’m sure he didn’t write it himself, but this is genius nonetheless.

I want to follow this kid and see where he goes in life.

“Dangerously ignorant” is an interesting way to put this.  He certainly is both dangerous and ignorant, but it seems at this point that the danger he represents is more based around his mental and emotional instability than his profound ignorance. (more…)

A reader asked me to comment on this (larger version below).

There is no doubt that it will generate some power in choppy seas.  It’s one of dozens, perhaps hundreds, of different ways inventors have developed to extract some of the energy of our ocean waves.

In today’s turbulent economy, businesses are searching for ways to lower operating costs while seeking to raise their PR on protecting the environment. A method that has become increasingly popular in recent years is a switch from reliance on non-renewable energy to sourcing only renewable “green energy” to operate their business. As more statistics emerge as to the benefit of switching to green energy, companies are looking for ways to switch to plans with providers that can help them go green. (more…)

When we look at the meme here on Denmark, realize that the United States could see a reaction against the neoliberalism that has been dominant here for the last 40 years, and head in this direction, like most of the rest of the developed world.  Obviously, this won’t come from the beneficence of the top 1%, but rather from the increasingly severe hardship faced by the working class, and the growing realization that they’ve been lied to and betrayed by the current U.S. president.  (more…)
