When we think of Brazil nowadays, we tend to think of the oppressive regime of authoritarian, Trump-wanna-be Jair Bolsonaro, and his quest to ruin the Amazon rainforests. Yet Brazil continues to implement a great number of innovative strategies aimed at ameliorating environmental damage. (more…)

Yes, “the world is watching.”

In pity, in loathing, in disgust.

Watching a formerly great country imploding like  a carved pumpkin a few days after Halloween.  Once the core is removed, the rot takes hold in a surprisingly short period of time.

If it hurts to watch this from a safe distance, imagine what it’s like to live here.

Reader Markus Dirnbacher commented further on my post Feasibility of Hydrogen: The (hydrogen) delivery infrastructure does exist, e.g. ships, trucks whatever you chose. Yes, it’s not profitable yet but that’s the same for everything in the beginning. Hydrogen mobility will drive economies of scale and make hydrogen competitive in no time.
Well, I appreciate your enthusiasm for cleantech, but I need to point out two things:
a) You misunderstand the term “hydrogen delivery infrastructure.” It applies to delivery to the end user, e.g., the driver a a fuel cell-based car.
b) What you say here is what everybody’s been saying….since 1973 and the oil embargo.  The phase “hydrogen economy” was coined at the time, and it’s never gone anywhere but sideways in these intervening 47 years.

Sweden’s vegan oat milk product “Oatly” comes from a company totally devoted to sustainability.  From a spokesperson: “Electrical transportation is a key part of our supply chain strategy globally and on these routes, we will be reducing our carbon footprint by 87%.”

One runs into plenty of people who are talking about expatriating if Trump gets four more years to ruin this nation, and Sweden really wouldn’t be a bad choice.  Beautiful country with kind and enlightened people.  Every school kid from age 7 – 19 gets two English classes per week, so there is no language barrier unless you’re in extremely remote locations, which are too cold anyway.

The European Union is a complicated place in terms of climate change mitigation and other environmental issues, largely because it contains countries like Poland that are heavily dependent on coal.

Having said that, there is some really good news from the Continent as to how to rebuild the economy in a post-pandemic world.  From this article in CEENERGY NEWS:

Choosing the pathway to growth (more…)

The gentleman who co-wrote Trump’s “The Art of the Deal” has never been a fan of the president, but his precise viewpoint has changed since he witnessed the response to COVID-19.  This video, less than two minutes in length, is actually hard to watch, as we see a man quite credibly explaining why Trump has done so little to curtail the virus.

This is like watching a movie such as “The Bad Seed,” or “The Jagged Edge,” or any of the films about Ted Bundy, in which there is a horrible moment in which we realize that the killer is devoid of all conscience.
