I’m sure there are Americans who are proud that they live in a country so powerful that it can flout international law, practice torture, and commit war crimes and other human rights violations with impunity.
I speak for those who would prefer this were a compassionate, honest and law-abiding nation.
We tend to look at Donald Trump in terms of what he says and does, as these, by his careful design, are so outrageous. Conversely, we tend not to perceive Trump for what he doesn’t have, which is why I found this meme so striking and indeed, so frightening.
To be sure, Trump’s lack of character sets him alone in the annals of the American presidency.
This is a horrific moment in U.S. history. May it be over soon.
My friend Bill Moore, of EVWorld.com fame, likes to let the world know how well his home state of Nebraska is doing in terms of phasing out fossil fuels in favor of wind. Here we see this morning’s report, represented as a pie-chart, that has wind (orange) at about 53%.
Of course, not every place on Earth has wind resources like the Plains States here in the U.S. Yet it’s good to know that real progress is being made in the integration of renewable energy.
Is this really going to work for Trump? Further news emerges on his criminal behavior re: Ukraine, an hour later we strike Iran, and people think this is a coincidence?
Oh well, weapons manufacturers and their investors are popping open the champagne. That’s nice, isn’t it?
This made me laugh, but it’s not right to disparage people for killing their own food, especially when it’s a species that has a tendency towards overpopulation. I actually have more respect for these folks than I do meat-eaters who buy their beef wrapped in cellophane, conveniently ignoring the fact that the animal lived and died in horribly cruel conditions.

Here’s a cheery article that offers five climate-related mega-predictions for the coming decade. Though it’s insightful at a certain level, most what the author presents is essentially guaranteed to happen. Climate denial ends, followed by the mobilization of capital to phase out fossil fuels. Trump just wrote his second check as restitution for the criminal fraud he perpetrated through his fake charity, using the funds that were donated to develop a cure for childhood cancer for his own enrichment.
I run into people visiting from other counties at the rate of three or four per week. They’re too polite to ask, but they must be thinking: Why do Americans think that such a disgusting human being should be their president? I have no answer for that.
The Netherlands recently installed an offshore wind turbine with a capacity of 12 MW, sufficient to power 30,000 homes. Its blades are the length of footballs fields, and it stands almost as tall as the Eiffel Tower.
The cost-engineering of onshore wind places a certain limit to their size, perhaps 6 MW. This isn’t the case with offshore, as the cost of mooring anything is so intense, and goes up relatively little when the size increases. Look for these puppies to keep get bigger, especially as materials science continues to improve.
