Almost 400 scientists have endorsed a civil disobedience campaign aimed at forcing governments to take rapid action to tackle climate change, warning that failure could inflict “incalculable human suffering.” In a joint declaration, climate scientists, physicists, biologists, engineers and others from at least 20 countries broke with the caution traditionally associated with academia to side with peaceful protesters courting arrest from Amsterdam to Melbourne. Really? Are you saying that trickle-down economics (aka voodoo economics) has failed? Just like it did every time and everywhere else it’s been foisted off onto an unwitting public? That’s just astounding.
Just as bad, it will continue to be implemented wherever billionaires control the government. News flash: these people know goddamn well it doesn’t work for the good of the country; it works for them, and that’s all that matters.
Question: Part of what makes Tesla so successful is their vast network of super-charging stations. What record did they just break in terms of numbers? (Hint: It’s a multiple of 5,000.)

Relevance: Once every element of inconvenience and range anxiety is removed, look for the EV market to really take off.
Everyone has an opinion on Trump’s impeachment, and one of the most I’ve come across is: Why only two articles? What about obstruction of justice more generally (ten points of which are contained in the Mueller Report)? What about violations of the emoluments clause of the Constitution (of which there have been hundreds). How about violations of campaign finance law or breach of fiduciary duties related to a charitable organization?
I’m most concerned about what’s suggested in the meme above, though I wouldn’t know the exact name of the crime. Doesn’t Trump have an obligation to protect the health and safety of the American people? Doesn’t deliberating poisoning our air and water for the benefit of the coal barons violate something very specific in the criminal code?
A reader comments: If approved by the Senate, the vote would remove Trump from office and install far-right religious zealot Mike Pence.
I’m aware of this sad fact. I’m not thrilled that our president would be someone who believes in Noah’s Ark but not in climate change. In fact, his entire belief system, whether we’re talking about women’s rights, the application of science to policy-making, blurring the separation of church and state, or dozens of other issues, is far better suited to the Middle Ages than the 21st Century.
The only thing he has going for him is that he is not a sociopathic criminal. He’d be a welcome change–and then he’d be gone.
The idea behind “trickle-down economics,” aka “Reaganomics,” as lampooned in the meme here, has been roundly discredited by the people who study this subject. (more…)
