Some Right-Wing Governments Hate Coal, Love Renewables

Americans’ viewpoints on energy tend to run by party.  The further one is to the left the greater tends to be his appreciation for renewable energy, those on the right tend to support the continued use of fossil fuels and regard renewables as a utopian dream of socialists.  Interestingly enough, however, this observation holds up quite poorly outside of the U.S.

Hungary’s Viktor Orbán leads in the fashion of authoritarians like France’s Marine Le Pen, our Donald Trump,  Turkey’s Erdoğan and Russia’s Putin.  Yet Hungary has announced plans to abandon coal, with a switch-off date of 2030.  From that article: In November, the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority launched the nation’s first renewable energy auction, giving clarity to the future project pipeline. The CEO of Spain’s solar developer Solarpack Pablo Burgos said, “Hungary is now among the European markets putting solar schemes at the forefront of their renewable energy commitments.”
