Those of us old enough to remember the end of the Nixon presidency recall that support doesn’t wane steadily. It hangs on and on, until it’s no longer considered tenable. Then it disappears, as if into a wisp.

Can it shock anyone that Trump considers any who oppose him, be they from either of the two main U.S. political parties here in the formerly great United States, to be “human scum?”

At this point it’s a cascading set of appeals to our most base instincts…. until he’s eventually forced out of office…..or until he’s reelected and goes on to set the standard for world leadership in the 21st Century, which seems quite possible.

Brace yourselves, but keep this in mind: it’s up to you and me.

Any automaker that expects to be around in 20 years has an electric vehicle program aggressively underway.  Sure, some of these efforts are slow-rolled, as the EV adoption curve hasn’t yet gone into high gear, due largely to issues associated with range and price, not to mention inertia; Americans tend to do this year what they did last year.

Speaking of slow-rolling, when I was at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2008, I ran across Volvo’s EV plans.  Here’s there first offering, a mere 11 years later.

In response to a pro-capitalist/anti-social screed, the following discussion ensued.  The essay Stuart linked to is very interesting and worthwhile, btw.

Stuart:  For those more interested in substance than rhetoric on this issue, please check this out, explaining how capitalism vs socialism is a false dichotomy and suggesting that what’s really happening is that young people are beginning to see the downside of pure capitalism.

Me:  Wow, this really is good, thought-provoking stuff. (more…)

I met a couple from Australia the other day who remarked how mean-spirited all this is.  The husband said, “The countries of the world work like dogs, for years, to get to the Paris Agreement; sure it’s imperfect, but it’s a good start.  And then the most important country on Earth pulls out of it, just because it can?  It’s disgusting.”  (more…)

Now might not be a bad time to remind this Major League Baseball umpire and others like him that participating in a cival (sic) war, if that means committing an act of violence, will meet with immediate and overwhelming force from law enforcement (more…)

I know what it’s like to struggle to be heard.  Yes, 2GreenEnergy has 6K+ subscribers, but I sure wish it were 6M+ or 60M+.

That’s why it’s so easy to appreciate the creativity others are showing in developing novel ways to communicate their ideas to the world, like this breakthrough: write your thoughts on your baby’s onesies.  Who doesn’t love to approach a baby carriage, hoping for the opportunity to coax a smile from a little one who has just come into the world?  Now, expressive parents can let their bundles of joy do the talking for them.  Great thinking.

It’s hard to imagine what thoughts shot through the minds of the collective Republican establishment when the president’s former acting attorney general made this statement earlier today.  One would have to speculate the following: If this is the best defense we can muster, Trump’s toast. Abuse of power is what impeachments are generally about; it’s what lay at the core of the cases against both Bill Clinton and Richard Nixon.  (more…)

Glenn Doty writes, We are rapidly devolving as a country. They will gladly pull down every single institution – including their own – rather than allow the constitution to be followed and the rule of law to be enforced. It’s getting dangerously close to anarchy.”

I respond: Anarchy might actually be an improvement, as it, at least theoretically, it enables the naturally occurring good and fairness in people to take over and exert control.  Goodness and fairness are entirely absent in incidents like these; this is more like oligarchy, kleptocracy, a coup d’etat, etc.

How completely unexpected. No one could have guessed that gutting the EPA and rolling back air pollution standards could possibly have worsened the quality of the air we breathe and caused more people to die.

This is equivalent thinking to giving toddlers loaded pistols and expecting gun violence to decline.
