John Paul Stevens, Proponent of Sustainable Democracy, Dead at 99
John Paul Stevens’ retirement from the U.S. Supreme Court in 2010 was prompted by the high court’s decision in “Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission,” which freed corporations from federal limits on campaign spending, enabling them to use their immense power to influence our elections in any direction of their choosing. In his vocal dissent, Justice Stevens wrote that the decision “threatens to undermine the integrity of elected institutions across the nation.” (more…)
