1495258541-7517Here’s an excellent article describing some unanticipated consequences of climate change.  When I saw it, I commented: Humankind will never completely understand the dynamics associated with climate disasters, simply because weather is intrinsically chaotic. (more…)

UntitledWe’re all rooting for a healthy return of the rhino population, but this, really?

The rhino gestation period is 16 months, and the population is up 10X? Are they having litters like rats?

94064de6bd3a4518b5d46541e911e980_18It may seem that there is nothing to say about the life sentence that avowed Nazi James Alex Fields Jr. received for deliberately driving his car into a crowd of anti-racism protesters at the 2017 rally in Charlottesville. After all, you have a guilty plea to a hate-driven first degree murder, as well as a totally unrepentant perpetrator.  This is a full-on way of life for Fields, who once remarked upon visiting the death camps in Germany, “This is where the magic happened.”  So again, maybe there really is nothing that makes this at all remarkable. hqdefault (2)In preparation for my first book, Renewable Energy–Facts and Fantasies, I interviewed Dr. V. Ramanathan at the Scripps Institute in San Diego.  “Ram (pronounced “Rahm”), as he’s affectionately known, had been working on the science behind climate change since the 1970s, and had become one of the most broadly acknowledged leaders in the field; I was honored that he accepted my request. Both China and Russia are in the process of driving the United States into obscurity and irrelevance, each using its own weaponry–both clever in their own regard, and neither by threat of military force.   (more…)

5824b25b46e27a34478b591d-320-160Here’s wonderful imagery that illustrates how inefficient our current modes of transportation are.

Antonymous vehicles get rid of the driver.  What we need to phase out is the car, and the gasoline that powers it.

image4To Kill a Mockingbird was published on this date in 1960.  As country lawyer Atticus Finch tells his daughter Scout, “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy…but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”

This has real meaning in today’s world, where we’re arresting church pastors whose religious convictions dictate that they should leave water in the Mexican deserts, to save the lives of families who, starving and fearing for their lives, desperately flee their homelands to find food and safety.
