But elephant numbers have dropped by 62% over the last decade, and they could be mostly extinct by the end of the next decade, largely due to the enormous profit earned by poachers selling ivory into Asian markets.

Return on investment 2017I want to send you this as a reminder that I’m still in the business of bringing together solid ideas in cleantech (mostly renewable energy) with sources of investment capital.   (more…)

46505724_10213868421926775_3620140556983730176_nI’m going to take a wild guess and suggest that the guy living here doesn’t have a 75″ flat screen TV on which he watches Monday Night Football with his beer-swilling friends.

Henry David Thoreau said, “If a man loses pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured, or far away.”

dsohvzrvqaam-g1.jpg-largeGiven that macro-economics isn’t an exact science, there are many opinions on the causes and effects of the plummeting price of crude (down 6.6%) today.  One, given on today’s edition of NPR’s “Marketplace,” is that the developed world has accepted the reality of climate change and it’s working full-bore on reducing carbon emissions. Everyone with lungs needs to believe that’s true.

SolPadMobile-1000x500Here’s an article that discusses the boom in solar PV that’s taking place in the southern part of Ohio.  It’s a reminder that the politics of a certain region of the country has very little to do with the success of renewables in that area.  (more…)

46391121_10156455726360709_2103591620560551936_nI have the thought expressed in the meme here constantly.  In addition to catastrophic climate change, we have the retrogression into fascism and tribalism, genocide and mass starvation, all of which receive a small fraction of the attention we pay to professional football and the country music awards.

ArcticOceanHeatHere’s a short but wonderful video that presents what five large European cities are doing to reduce emissions, while improving the quality of their peoples’ lives.

It’s hard to imagine what these folks think of the U.S. at this point.
