Here’s a paraphrase of the discussion that governors of some of the most conservative states had regarding wind energy with the governor of Iowa, an equally conservative state:
Other governors: Renewable energy is what the liberals want. We’re the Midwest; join with us and help us stop it.
Iowa governor: People in this state are making a fortune with wind. My trying to stop wind energy would be my last act in public office.
As shown in the graphic below, wind energy is killing it in Iowa. It’s sad that the reason to migrate to renewale energy is about money, but let’s understand this: that will get the job done. It doesn’t matter what’s the driver for clean energy; it doesn’t matter that we couldn’t care less about the quality of the environment we leave to our descendants. What matters is that this happens, and, if money is the on’y drover, that’s better than none at all.

Of course, these words were ignored, and now the military industrial complex is a juggernaut at least as powerful as anyone at the time imagined. (more…)
