Herschel Walker speaks at a Trump rally

If you want to try to understand the choice that Georgia voters are facing in the senate race in November, check out even a few seconds of this interview, in which the victor of the Republican primary, Herschel Walker, presents his suggestion for reducing gun violence. (more…)

At a vigil Wednesday for the victims of the massacre in Uvalde, Tex., a British journalist asked Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) why mass shootings happen “only in America.” Apparently, he “stormed off.”

He was caught by surprise? He’s wasn’t expecting to be asked the most obvious question of the day?

If I were running for office, I’d have answers to certain questions nailed down in my head. If someone asked me, “Craig, why are you running?” or “What makes you the best candidate,” I wouldn’t want to stammer and say, “Gosh, that’s a good question. I’ll have to think on that and get back to you.”

School shootings are unlike the need for climate change mitigation, universal healthcare, voter protection, and all the other slow-rolling tragedies.  They are acute moments of extreme anguish, when our nation cries out to its leaders: DO SOMETHING!

Yet, in a way, all these things are strangely alike, in that progress is impossible as long as Big Money owns our lawmakers.  There is exactly one reason that the United States has suffered more than 200 mass shootings thus far in 2022, and that such incidents are extremely infrequent elsewhere: corruption.

If we can remove money from politics and take the same stance on gun ownership that the rest of the planet has adopted, this problem will resolve itself almost immediately.

It’s easy to fall into despair about this latest massacre of America’s school kids.  Some people say that once we did nothing after Sandy Hook, we had resigned ourselves to accept the limitless murder of our children as a fair price for the right of deranged people to own assault weapons. (more…)

Good news (I suppose) a new entrant into e-boating: Torqueedo.

Bad news: a 3 HP motor with a 915 Wh battery will get the user 24 minutes of use.

Worse: Most bass fishing boats have motors 30 – 40 times more powerful.  Customers will be extremely dissatisfied.

It’s amazing how powerful cartoons can be in illustrating simple points.

“Pro-Life in America” by someone named “de ADDER” hits hard.

Love the “Abortion” sign with the coat-hanger in the middle of the piece.

Use your talents to drive us towards a renewable future,” U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres said in a commencement address to Seton Hall University graduates.

There are many encouraging social phenomena which are pushing in the direction of a sustainable future.  Among them, public sentiment about the importance of climate change mitigation is growing rapidly, as shown by the steep adoption curve of electric vehicles.

Young people are those with both the most at stake, and those whose lifelong  contributions make the greatest difference.  Folks who are just now entering the work force have decisions to make that will have a profound effect on global warming and the long-term environmental damage that it ultimately wreaks.

That’s why it’s so nice to see the U.N. Secretary-General reminding a youthful audience that they have the capacity to choose not to be a part of the problem, as far as their life’s work is concerned.

If they do nothing else, they can keep their money and their time away from the forces that are knowingly destroying the planet for profit.

In a post earlier today, Gunning Down Our Children, I wrote:  Change will come only when our congresspeople start to lose more votes from people who demand common sense gun laws than they receive from the gun nuts and the NRA. (more…)

The U.S. Constitution is hailed as one of the top 10 achievements in the history of humankind.  Yet IMO, it has weaknesses, and the most profound came as a result of how the country was founded, i.e., as a rebellion against a strong federal government.  (more…)

At left we have an interesting thought, albeit horribly sad.  We really do seem to have normalized the mass murder of our children as a more-than-acceptable price to pay for allowing homicidal maniacs from carrying AR-15s into our schools.  The same people who did nothing about Sandy Hook are still doing nothing.

Change will come only when our congresspeople start to lose more votes from people who demand common sense gun laws that they receive from the gun nuts and the NRA.

Some say the balance here is shifting; let’s hope they’re right.
