Here’s a guy with everything required to be a successful politician in Louisiana: white, tall, jutting chin, and a remarkable indifference to the well-being of black people.

A couple of responses:

There is a difference about disagreeing on matters of opinion vs.  issues of basic morality.  Good people are not friendly with racists, bullies, authoritarians, criminals, pathological liars, etc.

“Hate” is a strong word; it’s one that doesn’t apply well to truly kind and enlightened people, characteristics that most of us aspire to have.   Thus the phrase, “Hate the sin; love the sinner.”  In many cases, I feel sorry for mean and ignorant people.  That’s not a pleasant way to go through life.

From this piece on Shell Oil and climate collapse:

A long-time Shell consultant based in the United Kingdom quit with a bang on Monday, condemning the fossil fuel giant for its dangerous efforts to expand oil and gas production despite numerous scientific warnings about the need for swift decarbonization to avert climate disaster. (more…)

Here’s a conversation on the photo at left that I’m having with a reader who happens to be a Trump supporter.

Craig:  I try not to point to individual mental lapses (like saluting an enemy general) as evidence of incompetence. If you could see my intellection at its worst, I don’t think you’d be too impressed.
Reader:  I have never seen that photo until TODAY.  Why? Where’s it been?
Craig:  I’ve seen that photo many times over the years; it’s been a talking point for the Never Trumpers for quite a while. Again, I don’t go there; we all have brain farts.
I think we need to concern ourselves to a far greater degree with issues of character. E.g., it’s looking like Trump conspired to overthrow the U.S. government. That’s not good.

Many of those on the far right tell us that the principal reason for our woes as a society is our failure to integrate God into our governmental affairs.

All I’ll say about this is that it clearly was not the viewpoint of the Founding Fathers.

Must be nice; I will be grateful if American democracy is returned to us.

If my wife and I were younger, and not attached to our kids, we’d be thinking about packing our stuff and heading to a place that isn’t criminally insane.

What we’re looking at here is as follows:

In places like Texas, intelligence, or even sanity, is not a key criterion to political success.  Rather, it’s all about how strongly one hates the correct people: immigrants, woman who want exceptions to the total ban on abortion, Democrats, and those seeking justice in the coup attempt.

Twentieth Century Chinese inventor, linguist, novelist, and philosopher Lin Yutang provided us this scary thought.

Let’s add a dash of optimism and say, “…..the sun will be setting unless decent people commit to ensuring that it doesn’t.”

Let’s add some additional content here.  Working with the Deep State, the Democrats are:

• Coming for your guns.

• Taking away your freedoms by forcing you to wear a mask.

• Teaching your children about racism.

• Rigging the elections in favor of socialists.

• Grooming your kids to be gay.

• Opening our borders.

• Defying Putin in Ukraine.

• Re-establishing decent public educational standards.

• Enabling private social media companies to enforce terms of use re: malicious lies.

• Using tax dollars to mitigate climate change.

The list is endless; please, feel free to add anything you like.

About the meme here, a reader notes: The libs are coming after Elon Musk with a vengeance!

I would say that anyone who supports Trump and is endeavoring to restore his voice to U.S. politics is a terrible human being, and that’s true regardless of what the “libs” are doing.

But now, throw in the fact that he has $200 billion.  Imagine that you could end world hunger or homelessness or climate change, but you decide that your contribution is going to be making Donald Trump a permanent fixture in our lives.  It doesn’t get any scummier than that.
