Since Trump became a thing on the U.S. political scene in 2015, there has been a running debate: Is Trump the cause of the hate, racism, and lies that is enveloping our formerly great nation, or is he the symptom of these characteristics that had lain dormant in our citizenry until he arrived?  My (admittedly imperfect) translation of the Spanish at left goes like this:

The citizens and the vote of hate

The question will linger in the air: How is it possible that 70 million (US) citizens, practically half, voted this week to keep a man in power who has turned into the epitome of lying, bullying, hate, ignorance, narcissism, and authoritarianism? And even worse, yet knowing all this, that (many in) the United States would prefer him again? (more…)

Question: There are at least three central problems with the idea put forth here, i.e.,  installing wind turbines under bridges.  What are they?

Answer: Can be found at Clean Energy Answers.

Relevance:  A great deal of thought goes into siting wind farms.  This idea doesn’t reflect any of that.

From thisA South Dakota nurse whose tweets went viral over the weekend says the hardest part of her job is convincing some critically ill patients that they really do have COVID-19. “Their last dying words are, ‘This can’t be happening, it’s not real,” Jodi Doering said on CNN. “Even after positive results come back, they don’t believe it.” (more…)

Obviously, there is a difference between cancelling and altering plans for the holidays, but that’s not the most objectionable aspect of this meme. Rather, it promotes the idea of violating state and local government guidelines that are put into place to protect the health of those around us.

I know I’m not alone in saying that living “life to its fullest” is inconsistent with selfishly endangering other people’s lives. (more…)

The task of this “gentleman,” which is rooting out disloyal staffers, is a difficult one indeed–and one that will soon become impossible, simply because there will be no one left.

We can try to put ourselves in these unfortunate people’s shoes, but what does it mean in practical terms to be completely loyal to a man who is in the process of committing a wide array of heinous crimes, from fraud to negligent homicide to obstruction to treason–and is involving his employees as accessories to those crimes on an increasingly intimate basis?  How many people are so loyal to Trump that they’re willing to follow him into lengthy prison sentences?

Though it would seem like the answer is zero, that may not be the case.  We’ll soon find out.

Impeached? Lost popular vote twice? One-term president? Each one perfectly true.

Yet all this will pale in comparison to the prison term to which he’s sentenced.  We’ve  never had a president come out of the White House and into the Big House.

It’s only a matter of time until we get to see this grand drama play itself out.  Self-imposed exile, or we’ll have incarceration; there doesn’t seem to be a third option.

Chief Arvol Looking Horse met with Greta Thunberg on October 8th when she received a name, translated into English, means “Woman Who Came From the Heavens.”  Chief Arvol is the 19th generation keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe for the Great Sioux Nation. He’s the chief and spiritual leader of all three Sioux Tribe branches.

So much to remark upon here, from the look of sheer awe on Greta’s face, to the mutual respect that two environmental warriors share with one another.

In a recent post, I pointed out the road to sustainability starts with caring about each other and the respect for nature.

It may start there, but I forget a key ingredient in the achievement of the goal: competence and awareness of our surroundings.

I don’t think she’s supposed to sit there.

My brilliant and sensitive friend Zan Dubin Scott writes:  This is why we can’t have nice things: we live in a plastic-surgery world and buy too many new things all the time.  They’re spraying this gorgeous fir GREEN! It’s not GREEN enough for the shopping center. And polluting everyone with toxic paint while they’re at it.

This really is illustrative of the sad, phony, robo-consumer society we have become.  Optimists believe our civilization can somehow come together and deal with the horrific threats we face in terms of things like environmental collapse, out-of-control pandemics, and world fascism.  If there is a path to sustainability, it begins with a better respect for one another and for nature itself.

French automaker Citroën has developed a wonderful battery electric vehicle, targeting the European market, initially Holland, the UK, and Germany.  Its MSRP in the UK is about $25,500 USD, which sounds quite attractive, given its modern styling, fabulous accouterments, and considerable range.
