There are few news stories getting more attention than the devastating wildfire year that the Western United States is experiencing, with more than 4.1 million acres already scorched in California alone, more than doubling the previous record (2 million acres, 2019)
As we make our way through the most pathetic few years in U.S. history, let me offer you the meme to the left. The person who posted this saw no irony, even though I wonder whom he would name as someone who actually did talk about his accomplishments?
Consider for a moment the following people: Johannes Gutenberg, Julius Caesar, Gautama Buddha, George Washington, Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, Socrates, MLK, William Shakespeare, Charles Darwin, Alexander the Great, Galileo, Muhammad, Aristotle, Leonardo Da Vinci, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, and Jesus Christ.
All reasonably accomplished people, I would argue. Now, does anyone, in their wildest dreams, believe that a single one of them went around talking about his achievements?

No one knows how long it will take the dozens of different types of damage Trump has inflicted on the United States over the last four years to be corrected. A good example is the meme here. If you’re white and really don’t care about other people, perhaps you don’t have a problem with lifetime appointments of white supremacists to federal judgeships. Literally everyone else considers events like these tragedies, exacerbated by the fact that they will take generations to repair.
Here’s a story about how the vast amount of bicycle miles driven in Amsterdam can be converted into a source of renewable energy.
It’s a proposal that’s based on Amsterdam’s love for cycling; 68% commute to and from work or school done via bicycle, cranking out a total of 1.25 million miles. What if that kinetic energy (19.5 million watt-hours) could be stored in batteries and then introduced to the grid at the end of each day?
Listening to Eisenhower speak at the end of his presidency and watching the election returns in 1960 with my parents were the first political events I can remember. Thus it is with particular disgust that I present the meme here.

Among the many things we’ve lost here in America is the capacity to think rationally and not be scared by people who deliberately misuse emotive words to hammer us into the position they’ve chosen for us.
It’s impossible to know what to expect in the two weeks leading up to the election. Obviously we’re going to see various “revelations” about Hunter/Joe Biden, coming from the least likely, most far-fetched sources imaginable, and God only knows what form they’re going to take.
Trump’s problem, however, is that anger and desperation makes him come across as completely, rather than partially, insane. His claims have become so asinine that even his supporters are starting to shake their heads in disbelief. (more…)
