Yes, let’s institutionalize virtual political conventions.  Reinvesting the monetary savings in public education, cleantech R&D, cancer research, debt reduction, stay-in-school programs, infrastructure, college scholarships, summer camps for the underprivileged, whatever.  Just pick one.  Or eleven.

And yes, keep the jet fuel in the ground.

If you’re not an airline or a hotel chain, virtual political conventions are a better experience for all concerned.

I can’t imagine what passers by would do to my house if I were to have this sign on my front yard, but I won’t be finding out.

I’ll have to content myself with the knowledge that somebody somewhere has good taste and either lives in a liberal neighborhood or has lots of courage.

It’s this complete indifference to the success of America and Americans that makes him so useful to Russia.

There’s a reason they want him in the White House; it’s not a coincidence.

Like alcoholics, most crazy people try to conceal their infirmities.

That is by no means universal, however.  Case in point: this smiling lunatic. She wants everyone to know precisely how far gone she is.

And comparing Trump to Jesus?  IMO, that’s more than insanity; it’s blaspheme.

One can almost hear Obama saying:

Don’t think I don’t know that you’re a butcher.

…. and Putin thinking:

If I’m going to return Russia to its former glory, it’s sure not going to happen while an honest and intelligent man is in the White House.  When he goes, I’m going to install someone I can control–someone stupid, incompetent, corrupt, indifferent to the success of the U.S., and preferably subject to extortion.

Franz Jägerstätter was an Austrian conscientious objector during World War II. Jägerstätter was sentenced to death and executed for his refusal to fight for Nazi Germany. He was later declared a martyr and beatified by the Catholic Church.

Two quotes on the subject from people we all admire:

“I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”

― Elie Wiesel

and

“Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity. The grave will supply plenty of time for silence.”

– Christopher Hitchens

Here’s a video featuring many of the top Republicans and their thoughts on Donald Trump–before he was elected.

Ted Cruz knew. Lindsey Graham knew. Marco Rubio knew. Rand Paul knew. Kellyanne Conway knew. Mike Pompeo knew. Nikki Haley knew. Glenn Beck knew. Rick Perry knew. Susan Collins knew.

Imagine admitting to the world that you have no integrity whatsoever.

The next time you hear any of these jellyfish talk in support of Trump, realize whom you’re listening to–a gutless coward who would sell his own mother for a handful of votes.

Below is the heart of the discussion I have frequently with people re: the pandemic.

Apparently, the math here is hard for some folks to get.

Once understood, however, it’s easy to understand the unacceptable consequences of what the “open the economy” crowd is demanding. (more…)

The Marquis de Sade once mused, “What are all the agonies of everyone on Earth, compared to a single one of my pleasures?”  That’s the level of criminal psychosis required to be the type of person Chomsky is discussing here.

There are people, and they tend to rise to power at an alarming rate, to whom the well-being of others means precisely nothing.

One of them has orange hair and cheats at golf.
